Kodak EasyShare C875

Despite the fact that it was one of the pioneers of digital photography, co-producing the worlds first digital SLR as long ago as 1994, it always seemed to me that up until around 2002 Kodak appeared not to be taking consumer digital photography at all seriously.

Corporate policy seemed to be that digital was a passing fad, and that people would eventually come back to film photography. What non-professional digital cameras Kodak did make at the time were low-grade plastic toys compared to the products being sold by rival companies.

However some time around 2002, coinciding with the launch of the first of its LS-series of stylish compacts, there seemed to be a major change in the Kodak philosophy. From then onward it embraced digital photography, even ceasing production of all its film cameras, while its digital cameras steadily improved in quality.

Portrait of a TV host as photographer

The public knows him as an energetic, highly articulate and engaging television host and sometime movie and teleserye star. But deep inside this young man is a desire to be on the other side of the camera, ‘‘behind the lens, contemplating silence and capturing life’s moments.”

Ryan Agoncillo is one of the fortunate showbiz denizens who have flourished and maintained a respectable stature over the years. Right now, he is hot property being the real-life love interest of popular soap and movie star Judy Ann Santos. However, in his own right, Agoncillo is carving his own niche away from the glamor of showbusiness but in the challenging world of photography.

His interest in the craft started way back in college. “I was taking up corporate communications. Parts of the course were subject on basic photography and video production,’’ he recounts.

Museum of Northern Arizona Presents Lasting Light: The Photography ...

While the average traveler might only spend a short time at the rim of the canyon, professional Grand Canyon photographers commit to hiking through rugged backcountry, carrying enormous packs of equipment, and spending hours or sometimes days waiting for a fleeting moment of magical light to capture the perfect image. Landscape photographers typically spend from six to nine months of each year in the field, usually alone and at great expense.

This exhibit showcases the work of 26 photographers and is sponsored by the Grand Canyon Association, Hance Partners, and Grand Canyon National Park. The 60 images were chosen by six ationally-recognized jurors from within the photography world.

In this exhibit, MNA co-curators Alan Petersen, Guest Curator of Fine Art, and Dr.
